Strengths: Compatibility to OEM product.
Weakness: Lower use life than original.
Overall a good product for the money, but lower quality than the OEM product, however it does get the job done quite well. I would recommmend this product for medium use users.

Weakness: Short Life. 8500 pages before it died (not 20000 as advertised)
I am using this drum in the MFC-9700. I replaced the original toner with a generic. I don't know if the generic toner caused the drum to die early but I will try brother only this time. I suppose that replacing toner and drums are just a part of owning a laser printer but I'll have to do the math again to see if laser prints are really cheaper than ink jet.
Strengths: Beautiful copies - clean, clear and pure. Steady, smooth printing. Easy to set up. Chepa to buy [highly reduced at PC World]
Weakness: Oh dear! It appears the drum is finished - after only a few thousand pages. The drum is more than the printer! What do I do with the new cartridge if I change printers to another company?
A great machine which produces great copies - sold at a budget price. But oh! The drum lasts much shorter than the brochure says - and is more expensive than the printer!

This unit is advertised to last 20,000 copies. The unit that was delivered when I purchased the printer only lasted for 6000 copies. Not expecting the drum to be the problem I had a repair person look at the unit. His original reaction was that the drum was bad. When he looked at the unit he confirmed this and stated that his experience with Brother products the drum does not reach its expected...

I have replaced the drum unit on this printer twice in the last eight years. It has been a very reliable printer, and the printing is crisp and clear. I am skeptical of "compatible" products, so I always buy the genuine Brother toner and drum, and have never had any problems.
Strengths: crisp, dark print
Weakness: expensive
This is a nice replacement drum. For me I get fairly dark, crisp prints. Sometimes on labels it flakes a bit however. Overall, not bad, but it is rather expensive. Usually cheaper just to get a new printer than replace the drum.
Strengths: Original Brother has less complication than non-Brother items
Weakness: It seems to run out faster than advertised
I have brought non-Brother drums and had several complications with the quality and production of the print-out. With the Original Brother products, I works and produced the quality that you expects.
Brother Drum Unit Model DR-400
Strengths: Lasts longer than non-Brother drum units. I've never had any quality problems with the many DR-400 units I've purchased from Brother.
Weakness: None
In the 7 years I've been buying these Brother Drum Units (DR-400), I've never had any quality or technical problems. The same cannot be said of generic drums NOT manufactured by Brother. I've learned my lesson. For my Brother MFC-9700, I'll never buy a toner cartridge (TN-460) or drum unit (DR-400) that isn't manufactured by Brother.
