Vista Compatible AIO Samsung CLX-3160FN

Strengths: Network was easy to set up. Scan to network and to email work flawlessly. The print quality is very good. Optional 2nd paper tray for expansion.

Weakness: No Auto-Duplex, copy function a bit slow compare to other machines. If you're on the fax line, the copy and scan function is not readily available.

Overall it does what it claims to do AND Vista compatible.

Works well with Ethernet and USB. Black and white printing warm-up is fast. Color is a little slow but comparable to others in its class.

Best part is it's quieter than HP counterparts

Very affordable all-in-one color laser printer

Strengths: afforadable, versatile, compact, user friendly

Weakness: a little slow, comes with small toner cartridges

Wow! First of all, I couldn't believe that I found an all-in-one color laser printer that includes fax for under $500! That was great! It even works good! The print quality is excellent. It's a little slow, but it's worth the wait. It's fairly compact for what it does, which is also nice. It was disappointing that it came with small toner cartridges, but for the price, it was not bad. I would definitely recommend this product.

Samsung CLX-3160FN

Strengths: Fast Printer, Great home office/small business All-in-One. Direct to USB scanning

Weakness: DPI isn't the best

I've been using this All-In-One for about a month now and it has served all my needs. The printing is fast and the color quality is pretty good. The one downside is the quality of the black & white isn't as sharp as my personal laser printers (Samsung ML-2510 & Brother HL-2140). I really like the scan to USB flash drive feature, as it makes it easy to do quick scanning.

CLX-3160FN: Everything I would expect & overall very...

Strengths: 1. Inexpensive color laser, all-in-one. 2. Vista-capable. 3. Setup is easy. 4. Network capable.

Weakness: 1. Sometimes able to detect burning plastic smell. 2. Documentation is not perfect. 4 pagers per minute for color is slow, but competitive with similiar color laser, all-in-ones.

Overall this is a very nice printer, and an excellent value. Printer, scanner, copier, and FAX all work on my Vista system, without issue. I have no significant issue or problems. Note, however: (a) Unit can have a strong burning plastic smell; my unit seems fine, but one in the store had a strong odor after printing, apparently from the temperatures used on the small toner drums. Doesn't pose a problem for me, but issue should be fixed; (b) Documentation is lacking; I had to download 3 software components from the website: scan driver, print drive, and Samsung SmartThru application. This wasn't documented, but it should be.
Gave this 4 stars, but an excellent all-in-one, especially for the money.

Convenient Color Laser AIO

Strengths: Great B&W Laser copies/printing, great fax & scanner

Weakness: No scalable lightness/darkness copy feature, average to poor color copies.

I bought this item to replace a scanner, b&w laser printer, and copier, & obviously to save space, and to also have color copying capability.

1. Color copies are just okay, would not use it for photo type printing or any "high quality" color printing needs.
2. B&W copies & printing are great!
3. Toner/machine smells like petrochemicals (coming from toner/use of toner/heating of toner) and I can smell it many times, whether making copies or not. All companies need to make soy based environmentally friendly ink.
4. Color copying is slow, but that is no big deal to me as I don't make many color copies.
5. One thing that really bothers me, is there is NO scalable lighter or darker copy setting-- it just has light, normal, and dark, but all options look the same-- which is DARK!? The LIGHT(er) setting looks the same as the NORMAL shade/copy setting (DARK setting does look darker). I called the company about this and they said "that is just the way it is made" (!?). When you pay the money you have to pay for this item, you want to be able to make scalable lighther or darker copies!
6. Faxing and scanning is easy and works fine.
7. Card stock will not go through this machine. And, the paper tray only holds like 150 sheets paper.
8. Am going to get the Samsung B&W Laser AIO SCX-4725FN instead, and use my Canon Pixma MP830 AIO (card stock works in the Canon fine) for my minimal color copying.

Samsung Never Again

Strengths: None.

Weakness: Many.

There are annoying things like, you put in a fax number and hit fax and then the unit says, "warming up" and then erases the number and you get to type it in the number again. There are other annoyances, but I won't list them. Check out the other reviews.

The most irritating thing is Samsung service. I started to have black blobs down the side of my color prints. Tech support had me try some things (almost 2 hours on the phone) and finally dispatched a tech. The tech then came out and there was now a new problem – blank areas in the prints due to a defective transfer belt. The tech said it would be delivered within 2 days. It ended up being on backorder. When I finally got the part, it was the wrong part, not a transfer belt, but the console that holds all the toner. I had to wait again for another shipment. They told me that the could not expedite it. I asked for a supervisor and was told one time that none was on call atm but that he would email him to call me. The next time, I was told to hold then disconnected. I finally got a new transfer belt. The new transfer belt is also defective. The console that holds the toner will not lock into place with the new transfer belt. Another 55 minutes of my life and they just told me they want to send out another transfer belt, but that it is on backorder. I have now been a month without a functional printer. How much do you want to bet that the problem is not in the transfer belt anyway? My wife and I will never buy Samsung again.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Strengths: I wouldn't know, as it has never worked.

Weakness: Does not fax, print, or copy. Other than that, it's great!

I only got about 500 total pages through this machine when all functions quit working. Samsung sent me a drive belt which I installed. No help. They sent out a technician with the same part. I showed him how to install it. No help. They sent out a "refurbished" unit, which has a different problem but still doesn't work. Samsung customer service says they can't send me a new machine becasue thye don't have any.

I agree with this review because the same thing happened to me, it worked fine for about 30 days and then just started acting up. Won't pull anything through except 20# plain paper, envelope printing, presentation printing, card stock printing is almost impossible. Call to Samsung's lackluster customer service told me to clean the roller with alcohol which temporarily helped but do I have to clean it after every 10 to 15 pages. It's noisier now than it originally was and I have to fight with it to get it to print, why should it take 15 minutes to print 8 lousy envelopes? Either I got a lemon or as I suspect, Samsung just manufactures poor quality products. My Samsung Blackjack cell phone lasted about 6 months before it started acting up and after a year it was not working at all. Save yourself a headache and don't buy anything manufactured by Samsung.

Not for me!

Strengths: Clear blank & white print

Weakness: Unable to use specialty paper

I bought this All-in-one printer to help run my small business. I am unable to print business cards because the formatted business card paper will not feed through the machine properly. Color laser photo paper will not feed through the machine - therefore I can not print brochures for my business. The flatbed copy/scanner feature does not work because the scanner "drags" thereby giving me a copy of black lines across the page. Envelopes are "iffy" they will usually go through the manual feed but lots of paper comes with them and you certainly have to print one at a time - no mail merges or multiple documents for this printer. Everytime I try to use my machine for anything other than a black and white print on regular 20lb paper I get so frustrated I could spit nails. This machine is not efficient in any way shape or form.

Don't Buy This Printer

Strengths: Only strength is that it does network scanning to pdf.

Weakness: Just about everything else.

We purchased this printer and within the 1st 30 days of use, it began acting up. We got Samsung involved. What a nightmare. They sent us all kinds of parts with which we had to install. Still no good so they sent us a refurbished printer. Guess what, that only worked less than 30 days as well. Samsung then ceased to be cooperative with getting this thing right. By then we were outside of our option to take it back to Staples where we purchased it. No one would refund our money. All this during the 1st year while the machine was supposed to be under warranty.

It skews paper and frequently eats the paper when feeding through the document feeder. Loses phone numbers when trying to send faxes. Frequently does not pick up paper from the paper tray. Images are fuzzy when scanned. The transfer ribbon assembly fits in the machine in such an awkward fashion that it literally takes 5 minutes to get it into the machine correctly. We aren't even to 2 years of usage yet (have abt 6 weeks to go) and now the printer has completely shut off. Seems there are several counters in the machine that trigger a machine shutdown until the counter is reset or the part is replaced or both. Trouble shooting is a nightmare and when the machine asks for passwords you know you didn't set - try 1934 - it just might work!

We couldn't be more unhappy with this purchase.
I will never purchase any Samsung product again just becuase of the problems that we have had with this printer and the lack of professionalism with the company.

Samsung CLX-3160N is a winner for a small home office

Strengths: Outstanding price, lots of features, small size, light weight, easy setup, good print/scan quality

Weakness: slow(ish), consumables medium-expensive, smells sometimes

I bought this All-in-one for $300 delivered from a major on-line office supply store after using several coupons. The main selling feature which separates the Samsung from most other All-in-One's is it's small size and light weight. I use the machine in a home office and I don't have a lot of room and I cannot deal with the typical 75lb monster.

Setup was a no-brainer. I just plugged in and it worked including network scanning and scan-to-PDF.

The machine is very competent and does most everything demanded by a home office. This isn't a replacement for a thousand dollar commercial machine, but for light home use (100s to 1000 pages per month) this all-in-one is a winner.

My only concern is that the machine sometimes "smells" hot after heavy use.

4.5 stars. Would buy again.

Samsung CLX-3160FN All-In-One

Strengths: Price is Fantastic for a COLOR Laser All-In-One which prints, fax, scan and copy.

Weakness: Color Toner is Expensive and use up very fast though I do NOT print a lot. Machine take a little bit of time to warm up.

The price is very Cheap for a COLOR - Laser - All-In-One machine. Toner is Expensive. Takes a little bit to warm up machine. Used lots of toner even though I set it at low. Color is NOT natural. Paper Tray is a little flimsy to use when trying to change paper size. ON-Off Switch is too far back of machine.

Samsung CLX-3160FN

THE GOOD: Network-ready color laser printer; USB port for storage devices and cameras; consistently good print and scan quality; well-organized control panel; built-in ADF. THE BAD: No duplex option; slow prints and scans; ships with low-capacity starter toner cartridges. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Samsung CLX-3160FN isnt the best or fastest multifunction printer, but it offers a good value for small...
