Basic and effective

Strengths: Low cost, Good quality print.

Weakness: No exit tray

I was looking for a low cost printer to replace my Epson C82, which fell dead as it seems they all tend to do, right after one spends $60 replacing all the ink.

I only need basic printing, though color is expected. I don't print photo's at home.

This printer has done all that I need it to do, which is to make printed material at a reasonable rate and quality, in a home environment.

It has all the present standard features of modern printers, like ink level warnings. The cartridges don't seem too expensive, and, if I understand things correctly, new print heads come as part of each cartridge, giving me hope that I should not run into the same problem of print heads going permanently clogged, with no reasonable recourse.

Amazing printer for price

Strengths: Low starting cost - essentially free printer with first ink purchase. Very good quality photo printing at FINE setting (did not try other setting) Print heads part of cartridge

Weakness: Unable to refill ink Price of cartridge Volume of ink in cartridge

When we to print our Christmas cards this year my three year old Canon S9000 was not cooperating (a partially clogged photo cyan that did not want to come clean), and a backup Canon S900 ran out of ink (the initial cartridges). When I went to price new cartridges, I was looking at probably 4 cartridges X $12 each.

Then I saw the ip6100 for about the same price at Circuit City, and I said "let's try this printer" since many had good things to say.

I must say I was very impressed at what $50 gives you. Yes the printer is 4 color (vs the 6 color of the S900/S9000), but to my eye I thought the print out was as good if not better than the 6 color "older technology" printer.

The bonus to me is that each cartridge comes with a new printhead -- and the printheads on the S900/S9000 gave me fits -- especially the photo cyan which liked to dry and clog.

I'm not sure what future use this printer will get, as we really need a printer that does 13x19. But it got the job done in a pinch for us in printing our Christmas cards at the same cost as cartridges would have been for the S900.

So, if you're looking for an inexpensive printer, give this one a try.

You get what you pay for.

Strengths: Small size. Price.

Weakness: Print quality and speed.

The color and B&W printing speeds and quality of this printer are on par with its price. It doesn't actually do anything that well. It's a basic printer for people with basic needs. Its cheap and its reliable. But I do not recommend it for good quality photos and such. For those, I would use an IP3000 or higher. Yes, that is the big brother of this one. This would be like buying the lowest end car from a particular brand. You know they have a really good product but this just isn't it.

great printer for simple print

Strengths: print fast, simple and easy to use

Weakness: low quality in printing pictures

I used many different kinds of printers. I like this one, because, it prints fast and has good quality, espeically for text files. it may not be a good printer to print high quality picture, but consider the cheap price, it's great because it could meets most of my printing needs.

Pretty good Photo Printer!!!

Strengths: first of all, Pretty cheap photo printer. I am satisfied with the improved smudge resistance, Accepting sorts of papers ranging from credit card to legal sizes. finnaly, so simple to use.

Weakness: There's no tray for catching paper at the front, no on-screen menu. Realatively low text resulotion.

My reason for buying this was simple. I'd tried bargain inks for my old HP printer and they messed it up. I decided if I could get a new printer for cheaper than two brand-name HP ink cartridges, I would do it, and upgrade my home printing operation altogether.

IP1600

Strengths: Good quality photo printing, relatively low price, compact size

Weakness: No paper tray, no USB cable

Usually you don’t expect much on a low price or say free printer, but this one surprise you much by its good quality photo prints. It is nice, both the color and the speed. It is said that the ink is not as pricy as those professional printers too. I would like to try more on this printer and find more strengths.

Good Value at a Price

Strengths: Replaceable, Compact, Simple

Weakness: Expensive Ink Refills, no usb cable, 2 ink system, not suitable for heavy use.

This printer reminded me of the 10 dollar after rebate lexmark z23 printer that I purchased. It too is a 2 ink cartridge system (1 black 1 color). Fortunately the canon refill cost of the color is only ~20 dollars versus the 50+! dollars of the lexmark printers.

Print quality is good and for the price it cannot be beat for your first printer however it's not appropriate as a more permanent printer. A true photo printer would be one that can be used without a computer. The 1 color cartridge system makes it a very wasteful photo printer... Perhaps it would have been better if it just called it an injet printer.

Not recommended for heavy use.

Brand printer producing nice quality photo at such a...

Strengths: Low Price; nice photos with acceptable quality; enough for personal photos; easy to operate

Weakness: No USB cable; Color is not very bright; Ink goes away very soon

Obviously, it's the simple operation and low price that make this Canon printer most attractive. It produces nice photos with acceptable quality. The 4,800 x 1,200 color dpi resolution is just enough for my use. If coming with a USB cable, it would be terrific. However, I'm very satisfied with this product overall. A good photo printer to have fun.

Canon PIXMA iP1600 Photo Inkjet Printer Review

Strengths: inexpensive price for a good printer

Weakness: There is no output tray

Priced at just $50, This simple, inexpensive, and compact home printer is adequate for everyday printing tasks. But it Does NOT come with USB cable which you need to connect the printer to your computer plus the ink are expensive.

Good photo quality prints with a cheap printer

Strengths: Excelent colors, good quality photo prints, compact, only 2 ink tanks.

Weakness: Missing paper tray, more expensive ink tanks with built in electronic chips.

This printer is a good value. The new Canon FINE technology (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) is a real progress in terms of prints quality; with a total of 1472 nozzles, the IP1600 is much better than older Canon's IP1500 (with 1088 nozzles) creating excellent color prints with live tones.
The photo prints speed is lower when compared to other printers but for the quality you get I won't complain. For regular BW/Color prints it is actually way faster then my old Epson and the spooling seems very fast (more memory?).
The manual says it can print credit card format but I have yet to try this feature.
IP1600 uses only 2 ink tanks (B&W and CMY) but the ink is expensive (~$20/black, ~$25/color). I used the printer for almost a month and I printed> 200 pages with the original tanks so I think that the advertised "1 picoliter ink droplet" actually saves ink (XP shows ink half full!).
My only real complain is that IP1600 doesn't have a paper tray so you need to "catch" the prints as they come out. This is very weird for a year 2005 printer and I hope this isn't a new idea from Canon.
BTW the ink tanks are "chipped" so re-filling might be problematic.

Decent little printer

Strengths: Cheap, easy to use and install, small

Weakness: Expensive ink, no output tray, no usb cable

Bought this as a printer for a second computer. Works OK, no major problems. Easy to install.

If you need a cheap printer that does what you need, just pick this up. This is good for the occasional photo, but I use it mostly with documents. Get a higher quality printer if you want to use it for photos.

Be warned... the ink tanks are PRICEY. This printer uses newer ink tank technology (I don't know much about it, but I did know about it before buying). Not sure if you can buy ink tanks at those "cheap" ink stores, last I checked I couldn't find them. So I try not to waste the ink, only print when I need to.

There's no tray on this printer, so be sure the area is clear in front of the printer. And of course, no usb cable in my box (seems the norm for printers). But you can pick them up for cheap at various online stores.

Good photo printer

Strengths: All in one color cartridge, compact desigh

Weakness: expensive ink cartridges;

Up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi color resolution is wonderful. Compact design save more desk space.
This printer is cheap. But, because of electric chip in ink cartridge, the using expense is expensive. Without USB cable is one more shortcoming for this printer.

Small and nice!

Strengths: Very compact. Replacement ink is inexpensive.

Weakness: None.

For the cost, this is a very nice printer. The colors are sharp. Photo prints are easy and of surprisingly high quality for such an inexpensive printer. Best of all the replacement ink cartridges are extremely inexpensive also.

Canon Pixma iP1600 review

Strengths: Reasonably good quality prints for the low price. Quick printing.

Weakness: No output tray (But good for those who dont have a lot of desk room). No USB Cable. Pricey print cartridges.

There was a mail in rebate for this printer when I purchased my Apple iBook G4 laptop. I already had a printer and would not have bought this otherwise but when i did, i was pleasantly suprised. Canon has always made good products. What caught me off guard was that this one was priced so low. I was expecting more of a toy than anything but the print quality came out reasonably good. I wouldnt say that you have your own personal photo center but it is good enough to make small posters or greeting cards with. I have since switched off into using this printer exclusively. The one draw back on this printer would be the price on the cartridges. In general, new cartridges are pricey and this one is no exception. If Canon can revolutionize the cartridge price aspect of it, this product would be a 5/5.

Canon Pixma ip1600

Strengths: - Price - Look

Weakness: - Two cartridges - Not high-speed USB connection

For an outstanding color resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi, for exceptional detail and photo-realism, this compact printer could print a 4" x 6" borderless photo in just over a minute. Plus, Easy-PhotoPrint version 3.3 software claimed to deliver professional-looking digital photos in 4" x 6", 5" x 7" and 8.5" x 11" sizes, which are perfect for framing and sending to family and friends. I had this printer free after rebate when purchased bundled with a notebook PC from a local store. So far I've been pleased with it.

PIXMA iP1600 Photo Inkjet Printer

Strengths: Price, quality, and size

Weakness: A little noisy

I purchased this printer because it was cheaper than the ink carthriges cost for my Dell 870 printer. It seems to be a better quality printer also. It prints photos very well with high quality photo paper.

still a choice

Strengths: Good price, ok photo quality, compact

Weakness: no output tray, no usb cable

Got it almost free from a combo buy together with an ibook notebook. The printer is still good enough for small volume family use. Photos come out colorful and clean, and printing speed is not bad at all. I don't often print large number of photos at home, and this printer just serves a backup.

No output tray and the usb cable doesn't come along either, which perhaps is what free means.

Anyway, it's a nice printer, i am satisfied with it so far.

An inexpensive, no frills printer with decent speed...

Strengths: Inexpensive, decent print speed, good text (black) output, acceptable color print quality (web pages).

Weakness: No output tray, single color ink cartridge, small input tray capacity, no USB cable, ink cartridges exhaust quickly, unit feels somewhat flimsy.

I bought this printer as part of a PC/printer combo deal. Received it free after rebate ($50), so I wasn't expecting much. I recently moved and needed a semi-portable printer while living in temporary quarters, so I decided to use the ip1600 for these purposes. My printing was almost exclusively black text, w/ perhaps a few color web pages, so I can't speak to the color *photo* quality. But for an expendable, cheapo printer, it worked well enough. Prints w/ decent speed and good quality text output. Color web pages were clean and crisp. Handles envelopes well too. Lack of an output tray may be annoying for long term use. Given my overall impressions of this printer, I would never pay more than $20 (after rebates/coupons) for it. There are just too many better printers that can be had for just a few bucks more. Ink cartridges seemed to exhaust themselves rather quickly too, so long term ink costs could negate any upfront savings anyway. It's just a very basic, no frills, ok printer.

Budget Printer

Strengths: acceptable quality, compact design

Weakness: Not suitable for someone looking for high-quality printing

I got this printer as a bundle purchase with Mac Mini around Christmas, so basically this printer was free along with a purchase of the computer after rebate. The printer quality is OK and the printer doesn't need much desktop space. But if you would like to invest a little more for a printer, you should find more better options. For a free printer, I have no complaint.

Cheap Photo Printer

Strengths: Cheap and compact. Acceptable quality and quick printing.

Weakness: no output tray and more expensive ink cartriges than previous models

It's bought free with purchase of a pc. So for its price, it's well worth it. It only has two ink tanks, but replacement ink is more expensive than previous model. Photo quality is acceptable for family use.

Cheap but Works Great

Strengths: Free after Rebate(s)

Weakness: Quality

Cheap but hey it mostly free after rebates with a combined purchase (laptop). But a nice printer though. Expensive Print Cartridges and doesn't come with a USB cable (not a complaint as most expensive one doesn't come with one either)..
